Montsaye Pool Sports Hall & Swimming Pool

Brief

The existing school facility comprised a pool covered with a temporary GRP structure with an associated block of outdated changing rooms and an inadequate sized sports hall. The redevelopment included an enlarged sports hall, provision of new changing rooms, a new permanent enclosure to the refurbished swimming pool and a new reception block linking the two elements and effectively forming an integrated facility both for the schools use and the local community

Design

Following a structural appraisal of the existing constructions to establish requirements and details to achieve remodelling works the detailed design adopted exposed radiussed glulam timber roof beams, supported off a loadbearing masonry perimeter wall to form the pool enclosure. The enlarged sports hall used clear spanning castellated curved roof steelwork with steel columns again to create the clear space required. Changing room facilities and the link block, including the reception area were formed in loadbearing masonry construction under a roof supported by curved timber glulam beams.
