Foundation and Substructure Design

Our substructure design capabilities draw on the geotechnical expertise within the company, from which the appropriate foundation solution is derived. In many instances our geotechnical expertise, alongside the consideration of methods of ground improvement such as vibro-treatment, lime stabilisation, soil compaction allows the determination of a more economic foundation solution to be adopted.

Superstructure Design

We have significant expertise in the design of buildings and their structural elements, in most cases working closely with the Architect to maintain the overall design integrity and adopting the most appropriate construction material in an innovative yet practical approach to arrive at a building in a suitable form within budget.
We are familiar with current procedures associated with BREEAM and the code for sustainable homes, and adopt the green guide in selection of construction materials wherever appropriate.

Structural Inspections and Appraisals

We have been undertaking structural inspections and building appraisals since the formation of the Practice and with the expert skills in both structural and geotechnical engineering can rapidly assess the structural integrity of buildings, diagnose failings or assess property for future uses. Remedial actions to remedy structural inadequacies are then specified, detailed and implemented.

Grandstand and Temporary Structures

We are regularly commissioned to carry out structural inspections of both permanent and temporary grandstands at sport and entertainment venues. Our brief typically includes review of calculations, inspection of the completed structure and regular maintenance checks to allow safety certification as required by the licensing authority.

The knowledge gained from this expertise extends the practices ability to design grandstands as well as a variety of temporary structures.
